Scientific publication und presentation at the European Conference on Information Systems 2011 in Helsinki with the title "Critical Success Factors of Global Enterprise Resource Planning Programmes: An Empirical Model Based on Expert Interviews".

Abstract:

The number of companies operating globally is constantly increasing. In order for these companies to operate globally, they require a global view of processes and their implementation in global enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. These ERP systems allow to integrate an organization's information sources and to harmonize its processes across multiple sites and countries.
But, not all global ERP programmes are successfully implemented. Some implementation projects fail in terms of classical project tracking, e.g. slippage of roll-out dates, budget overruns or missed qualitative objectives, while others fail more severely in their business impact, e.g. intended business benefits are not achieved including process standardization, process automation and asset carrying cost reduction.
To reduce the number of failed ERP programs, their critical success factors have been investigated but reports of these are not sufficiently comprehensive for global programmes as multi-national operations generate aspects that need to be addressed for success.
This study explores the critical success factors of global ERP programmes and derives a predictive model of success. Use of this model may aid companies in developing effective global ERP programmes.

Eclipse Process Framework - Composer PDF Print E-mail
Tool Competencies
Friday, 12 November 2010 11:15

A process is a sequence of tasks which are executed by roles and result in work product. The definition is used in particular, but not only, for software engineering processes.

There are different means to model these processes. A common way is the modelling of the process steps with graphical tools like MS Powerpoint or Visio and the documentation of the base elements tasks, roles and work products as text. This manual approach is risky in terms of the consistency, readability and maintainability of the process.

The tool Eclipse Process Framework (EPF) Composer offers the possibility to model tasks, roles and work products in an interlinked manner and to subsequently use them as base elements for the process sequence. This allows for automatic consistency checks and enforcement as well as an improvement of the maintainability by avoidance of redundancy. The model is provided to the user as an intranet site, which allows a role based reading.

Qualitative Text Analysis PDF Print E-mail
Tool Competencies

A well rounded research of a project topic often does not only include quantitative analysis, but the review of qualitative data. This could be text documents of different sources like interview notes, email, webpages, scientific articles, books, or presentations.

A reliable analysis of this qualitative information does not only require to analyse and aggregate this documents, but to ensure traceability of the deduced results back to the original data, even by a third person. The line of argumentation should be traceable for each (interim) result.

This approach is supported by the tool Nvivo, which supports the analysis of each individual text, the generation of hypothesis and eventually the deduction of results while documenting the process.

Presentation at the SAP Globalization Symposium 2010 on June 21. - 22. in Zurich on the topic of an assessment method for the burn-out likelihood of global ERP programmes in early states. The method is based on empirical research of 80+ global ERP programmes. It provides not only a prediction on the likelihood of success but as well specific recommendation on 12 critical success factors and 2 to 7 managament actions which drive each factor.

Cover The success of current global ERP programmes depends on a wide range of factors, which often are installed already in the early phases of a global ERP programme. Therefore, success can be predicted early on in the programme. The Working Paper Business 2.0 IWI-HSG Nr. 1/2010 describes the construction of a predictive assessment method of success probability of global ERP programmes.
